IKOS Revises Axis Lawsuit, Infringement in One Area Unclear
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 20, 2001--IKOS Systems,
Inc (Nasdaq: IKOS), a leading supplier of high performance hardware
assisted verification solutions, announced today that it has revised
its lawsuit against Axis Systems Inc. The lawsuit filed in February of
2001 asserts that Axis infringes on several patents held by, or
exclusively licensed to, IKOS for ``Virtual Interconnection For
Re-configurable Logic Systems'' and ``Transition Analysis and Circuit
Resynthesis Method and Device for Digital Circuit Modeling.'' These
patents were filed by IKOS during the period of 1993-1996 and issued
to IKOS during the period of 1997 and 1998. The original lawsuit also
asserted that Axis infringed upon an IKOS patent for Programmable
Multiplexing Input/Output Port. IKOS is now in the process of
withdrawing this last patent from the lawsuit.
``As we have continued our thorough analysis, including additional
review by outside experts, we have been able to verify with certainty
the infringement by Axis on the Reconfigurable Logic Systems patents
as well as the Circuit Resynthesis patent. To focus our efforts and to
simplify the issues for trial, we have decided to withdraw the
Multiplexing I/O Port patent,'' noted Ramon Nunez, president and CEO.
``Unfortunately during this discovery phase, our attorneys have
expressed that it has been very difficult to obtain enough information
from Axis to move forward as quickly as we would like. That said, we
are looking forward to the speediest possible resolution of these
issues,'' commented Linda Prowse Fosler, IKOS vice president of
marketing.
